Essex County Council should be focused on getting the basics right.
Roads, pavements, drainage, transport, safety and services that actually work. These are the things people rely on every day, and too often they are not good enough.
If elected, this is where my focus will be.
You can see more about each area that I will be working on below.
🚧 Getting Around
Roads, pavements and drainage are some of the most visible signs of whether things are working properly.
Across Brightlingsea and the surrounding villages, too many roads are deteriorating, pavements are uneven or unsafe, and drainage issues are left unresolved for too long.
This is not about one off problems. It is about a system that is not delivering consistent, reliable maintenance.
I have already spent time looking at traffic data, road safety and local issues, and I will continue pushing for proper, long term solutions rather than short term fixes.

⚡ Local Energy and Infrastructure
As our area grows and changes, infrastructure needs to keep up.
That includes energy resilience, capacity in local systems and making sure services are fit for the future.
Too often, infrastructure is treated as an afterthought rather than something that should be planned properly from the start.
This needs a more joined up, practical approach that focuses on long term reliability rather than quick fixes.
🏗️ Planning and Infrastructure Coordination
Development should not come at the expense of existing communities.
Too often, housing is approved without the infrastructure needed to support it. Roads, schools, drainage and services are left to catch up afterwards, if they catch up at all.
I will push for a clear principle: infrastructure should come first, not last.
This means better coordination, stronger scrutiny and making sure local concerns are properly represented.
🎓 SEND, Education and Libraries
Essex County Council plays a key role in education, including SEND provision and library services.
Many families are finding the system difficult to navigate, slow to respond or not providing the support they need.
This is an area where accountability, clarity and proper resourcing are essential.
I will focus on making sure concerns are heard, issues are followed through and services are working as they should.
🚸 Community Safety and Resilience
People should feel safe where they live.
That includes road safety, flood response and making sure communities are better prepared when things go wrong.
There are clear areas where improvements can be made, particularly around safer junctions, better police presence and communications, and better use of data and more proactive planning.
This is about reducing risk before problems happen, not just reacting afterwards.
🏛️ Accountability and Representation
The problem
Too often Essex County Council feels disconnected from what people are actually experiencing day to day.
Residents see poor roads, ongoing issues and slow responses, while official updates suggest everything is under control. That gap between reality and communication damages trust and frustrates people even further.
There’s also a lack of clear accountability. It’s often difficult to get straight answers, understand who is responsible, or see real progress on issues that matter locally.
What I’ll do
I will focus on being visible, responsive and willing to challenge when things aren’t good enough.
That means:
- Asking direct questions and pushing for proper answers
- Using data and evidence, including FOI requests where needed
- Challenging decisions that don’t reflect what’s actually happening on the ground
- Speaking up when something isn’t right, even if it’s uncomfortable
I won’t just accept vague updates or polished messaging if it doesn’t match reality.
Honest communication
Residents deserve clear, straightforward communication.
If something is being fixed, I’ll say so.
If something is delayed, I’ll explain why.
If something isn’t good enough, I’ll say that too.
What I won’t do is dress things up or pretend everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.
Holding myself to account
Accountability works both ways.
If I’m elected, I will be open about what I’m doing, what progress is being made and where things are stuck.
You’ll be able to see:
- What I’ve raised
- What action has been taken
- Where I’ve had success
- And where I’m still pushing for change
I believe residents should be able to judge for themselves whether their councillor is doing the job properly.
Representing the area properly
This role is about representing the people who live here, not protecting the system.
I live and work locally, and I will continue to stay close to the issues that matter, listening to residents, raising concerns and following things through until there is a clear outcome.
This isn’t everything
These are the main areas I will focus on, but I know there will always be issues that matter locally that are not listed here.
If something is affecting you or your area, I want to hear about it.
